*AP Language and Composition note:
While reading these books, students should focus on the authors’ writing styles and on how the authors use language for effect rather than focusing on traditional literary analyses such as setting, character, plot, and theme.  Additionally, students are strongly encouraged to purchase personal copies of the summer reading texts and to textually mark their copies with vocabulary questions, observations, and questions, and personal responses/connections.  Students who are unable to acquire personal copies of the texts may use post-it notes or a separate reader response journal in lieu of marking on the actual text pages.
