The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) is part of Florida’s overall plan to increase student achievement by implementing higher standards. The FCAT, administered to students in Grades 3-11, contains two basic components: criterion-referenced tests (CRT), measuring selected benchmarks in Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Writing from the Sunshine State Standards (SSS); and norm-referenced tests (NRT) in Reading and Mathematics, measuring individual student performance against national norms.

Please note that IPODS are included in this policy.

This is a zero tolerance policy.

FCAT OPTIONS for Juniors and Seniors

FCAT Academy is an intensive, FCAT preparation course.  You may take either Reading or Math and earn ½ credit.  The course runs Monday – Friday, 8AM - Noon, from June 9-June 27.  The FCAT test will be given the last three days of the session.  Pre- Registration will be conducted at each high school from May 19 through May 23, 2008.  You may attend at any one of the 19 FCAT Academy program locations. To register, you must complete the co-enrolled Letter of Authorization.  Registration forms are available in Guidance.

The ACT test is a college entrance test. A score of 15 on the Reading and/or Math can replace the FCAT assessment (as long as you have taken and failed the FCAT at least 3 times).

The last test being offered this school year is on June 14.  The registration deadline was May 9.  You may still be able to register for it, but you will have to pay a late fee.  You may register by mail, using the paper form or you may register the faster way online at www.act.org. The cost is $30.00

A good preparation book is The Procrastinator’s Guide to the ACT.

The SAT test is also a college entrance test.  A score of 410 on the Reading and 370 on the Math can replace the FCAT assessment (again, as long as you have taken and failed the FCAT at least 3 times).

There is one more SAT on June 7.  However, the deadline for this test was 5/6.  You may still be able to register for it, but you will have to pay a late fee.  The cost of the test is $43.00 plus the late fee.  You can register online at www.collegeboard.com.
